Deep Healing Relaxation
for complete personal embodiment
"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society."
Jiddu Krishnamurti "When I look them in the face, my demons reveal that they are nothing more than my own vital energy." John Welwood |
We simply don't know how to fully relax, both mentally and physically. We tend to confuse and think that taking a holiday, going for a hike, doing yoga or lying on the couch watching TV, are relaxing. And even they may actually feel releasing in some way, full mental and physical relaxation comes with stillness and silence.
The part of the nervous system in charge of stress is complemented by the relaxation system, which not precisely paradoxically, is also in charge of the correct functioning of the immune system. Do you think that we, humans, would get as sick as we normally do, if we really knew how to relax? Well, very probably not. And I am not talking about miracles or an idealised state of pure health that could only happen in heaven on earth. I am talking about the real state of health in which we are supposed to live, simply because our body is perfectly prepared to heal itself.
And why don't we just do that?
We live in a thousands years old society, all over the world, that is based on slavery and power struggles. Not because that is our nature, as we normally tend to believe, but because a few have always got in charge to convince us that we are worthless, mean beings, that if left alone to their whims, we would simply kill each other. So, we have been told that God is outside, that authority is outside, that we are worthless and we'd better follow orders of how things are supposed to be. That way, we have become very submissive and obedient sons and daughters, slaves, soldiers, employees and consumers.
As a consequence of that, we have understood that giving away our authority over ourselves is the most logical thing to do. So, to listen to ourselves, our bodies, our feelings, our intuitions has become the least priority among our normal lives. Our bodies have become just the vehicle that carries our heads; and our mind, totally brainwashed by societies' values has become the commander of our lives.
That way, we work more than eight hours a day and are available for working matters in our cell phones almost 24/7. And when we have free time, we think we are relaxing while watching all kinds of violent scenes on our TVs, smoke joints every evening to scape the contents of our minds, which if we did listen to, we would end up deeply depressed under the effect of self pity and self hatred, or kill ourselves at the gym or the power yoga class, to at least get a rush of feeling better and think that we are doing something to "take care" of ourselves.
But then, what can we do about this?
Many things! First of all, just become aware of our conditioning and our lack of inner authority. To become aware is the first step to assume back again the ownership of our choices. Ok! It's fine! I know that we are already so deep in shit, we have already made so many bad choices to which we are enslaved, that it seems impossible to get out of it! I know!
But the idea is not to get out this and to run away from this world! We are here to see this and simply change it!
Becoming aware is the first step. Ok, yes, we're standing here and we have already made loads of compromises where we have put our lives and hearts, thinking that it was the right thing to do. That's fine. Just take it and continue, determined that from now on, you will start making your choices from deep inside your gut, your heart, your whole embodied truest being, instead of just doing what you were told you have to do or be. That is a great beginning!
And that's how the Deep Healing Relaxation Project has begun
In my training as a psychologist, very early I became aware that there was something wrong about our relationship with our bodies. While doing my specialisation in cognitive behavioural psychology and stress medicine, I came to experience through myself and my clients, how foreign and unknown was relaxation to us. So I decided to specialize in relaxation and meditation techniques, which coming across yoga in my life, simply helped to make it even deeper.
Shavasana, the relaxation that we do at the end of a yoga class, is probably the most important part of it, because we go into stillness, silence and deep breathing, which are the keys to stimulating the parasympathetic relaxation system, which triggers our body's self healing ability, through the activation of the immune system.
And, not paradoxically, in general, that is, in most modern yoga classes, that part of the class to which the less amount of time is dedicated. "Ok, five minutes, enough!!!! Too much stillness and silence might take me to encounter my own crazy mind and action addicted body!!!! Enough!!!!!"
I know. And I understand you. That's why it is so difficult to practise meditation for the great majority of us. But, you know?, relaxation and meditation are about precisely that encounter. The encounter with our reality, no matter how much it will stress us or hurt us, and simply staying there long enough to realise that it is NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.
Yes, it is sad. Because the human condition has ended up becoming quite sad. But, it's ok to just become aware of it, because behind it, there is so much love and so much beauty, and so much innocence and power.
Deeply relaxing, in stillness and silence, is not easy but it is the most beautiful encounter with your inner truth. And in that, we realise that all is in order, no matter what, that we are sovereign in our lives and that absolutely every second of our lives is an opportunity to make conscious, aware choices; and that we are totally entitled to make mistakes and choose again based on the consequences of our own actions.
Ownership of our bodies and the inner wisdom that expresses through it, is fundamental to regain inner authority. And for that we need to develop trust in that silenced body that has been reduced to a mechanised tool at the service of a conditioned mind. Deep relaxation through stillness and silence is the path to regaining the lost trust in our inner wisdom and to meet the depth of freedom, beauty and love that lies behind the mental mumbo jumbo of our inner narratives. By regularly practicing not identifying and believing all the things our minds say, we will slowly put our minds to do what they were always meant to do, that is to put them at the service of our beautiful hearts.
Come on!!!! You know very well what I am talking about. You know very well how your body talks to you, when you said "yes" and in fact you really wanted to say "no". That choking feeling, or thwarted knot in any area of the digestive system. That wisdom has always been there, but we've been taught to ignore it. Just bring it back and be honest. That's all we need to do. It sounds very difficult, and it very probably is. But to finally allow yourself to be yourself truthfully, isn't it a wonderful challenge?
I invite you to relax deeply, and meet that person you've forgotten long ago: yourself, who has all the colours of the rainbow and renews themselves every second in a constant navigation of the mystery we truly are. Ready to come? You are totally invited and deeply welcomed.
The Deep Healing Relaxation Project is still in diapers. I have begun with sessions in persons in Berlin based on donations, which I've recorded and have started uploading in a YouTube channel. Just go in there and start practicing by yourself: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUkL2aBNvtGjEcw2sz_3jyg
Hopefully soon, I will be able to start uploading recordings of better quality, but at least, this is a good start. Please, feel free to comment and give me constructive feedback to improve this beautiful project day by day. Thanks for reading up till here!
